Obama is center...and maybe even leaning slightly to the right with hawks at State, DoD and NSA. Let's see if he backs a handout to the UAW.

"Obama is center...and maybe even leaning slightly to the right with hawks at State, DoD and NSA..."

I wouldn't exactly call Obama's selections hawks. They are far from the likes of a Dick Cheney. Obama has made it clear he understands that these are all strong individuals, but that it is he who will be President and "the Decider" if I can borrow a phrase. "I am a strong believer in strong personalities and strong opinions," he (Obama) said. "I will be responsible for the vision that this team carries out and I expect them to implement that vision once decisions are made. As Harry Truman said: 'the buck stops with me.' "

I commend Obama on his choice to have Gates remain for at least a year to help wind down Iraq and put Jones in charge of NSA. Of course Hillary is an excellent choice at State as well.

So by acknowledging Obama appears to be doing exactly what he said he would do in picking the best people regardless of prior affiliations or what they may have said about him in the past, rather than stacking his cabinet with cronies from Chicago as Republicans tried to make us believe he would do (remember talk of a cabinet made up of Ayers, Rev Wright, etc. LOL), are you now dissapointed that he may not turn out to be a weak Commander in Chief as you and the Republicans tried to scare the nation into believing he would be?

As for change? This is a big change. Just the kind I and a majority of the electorate voted for. A President that surrounds himself with the best people out there. A President in control instead of being his VP's patsy. A President showing strength and intelligence and bi-partisanship instead of blind stuborness, demagoguery and dismissiveness. Remember how Bush cleared house when he came in and refused to listen to anyone connected with the Clinton administration? This is change we can believe in. Not a weak defense and not communism.

I'm all for his picks at State, DoD and NSA. All are to the right of center on national defense. The right doesn't suffer from that derangement syndrome where all things Obama are bad as the left suffers with Bush. We are not anti-Obama, we are pro-America.

His supporters are surely disappointed that his idea of "change" is continuity. Let the spinning begin! Oh, but I see you have already started.

No spin needed, I'm getting what I voted for, not what republicans tried to tell me I was voting for.

I'll just say that if you thought you were pro-America by supporting a horrible president, then you will love having a great President in Obama. It's good to see you joining us.

All for that One and that One for all.

So long as Obama keeps hiring conservatives and hawks...okey dokey. Although I kind of wish he had put Hillary in charge of his socialized healthcare scheme.

Continuity you can believe in!

It is fun watching all of the contortions the meaning of "change" is going through. I think Bill "that depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is" is behind it. [How often do you get to construct a sentence with 3 consecutive "is"s?]

Out of Iraq in 16 months? Ain't going to happen.

So now that we have a 3 year SOFA we have a foot in the door for an ongoing presence in the heart of the Middle East.

Yes we do!

Sounds like total common sense to keep Gates on, continuity is needed in Iraq and Afghanistan, keeping in someone that knows the score and is known and respected makes total sense.

And Clinton is known on the international scene, has the relationships built with many a foreign nation. Again, it's a wise leader that selects the best people for the job, irrelevent of personal feelings or politics
