| | | | | racist L Ron Hubbard was? |
| | | | | What's looney is the sheer amount of people who never bother to realize that old L. Ron was a science fiction writer who decided he could make more money by creating a 'religion' than he could by writing.
thetans...who beam in from a moon off of Mars...people spending millions trying to get 'clear'...
Even though he's dead, he's got to be laughing like a hyena on crack

| | | | | | | | | | Cults can be insanely destructive. I knew Scientology was founded by an idiot, but I had no idea people were dying over it/because of it; thanks for the heads up.
And if you have the time, pick up Kingdom of the Cults by Walter Martin. It gives extremely detailed background/founding information on Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc. It's also a bit preachy for those of you not of a purely Christian persuasion, but once you read how these cults got started (and by who), it's a bit crazy to think people get caught up in them.
Plus it's nice information to have when they come knocking on your door. Since I no longer watch TV, I get a small amount of mental exercise by asking these people to explain why they believe what they do in light of how and who started their belief system.
