| | | | Its now been almost three weeks sense six coal miners were buried alive In my home town of Huntington Utah. Three more lives were lost in a rescue attempt, One of those being a MSHA representative. I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who has been watching and praying for them and their families, and to continue to pray for them and our community, its small and isolated but strong and united.
I would also like to express my displeasure with the UMWA(United Mine Works of America) They have used this tragedy to point fingers, inspire hate, breed contempt and cause dissention among the people trying to be of aid and the community at large. While I agree unions helped make this country great and served a purpose, the abomination of corruption and greed it has degenerated into makes me physically ill. To see the local leader Mike Delpaiz smear the efforts of the rescuers and MSHA, preening for the cameras like some painted whore, trying to push his message "this would never happen in a union mine" was the most asinine statement I have ever heard, all mine plans are approved by MSHA, weather union or not. The working conditions there were dangerous there is no doubts about that, stepping into a coal mine is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, where else can a high school drop out make 80 to 90 k a year? The men knew the risks and the environment they worked in. The bottom line is if it was anymore unsafe than the guidelines limit, they wouldn't have been mining there, its that simple. For the leader of the UMWA to lay the foundation for future unionization of mines and future divided checks on the bodies of these miners and their families is monstrous and reprehensible.
I would also like to make the statement and pose the question "should Bob Murray be allowed to own and operate a coal mine, or any other venture where people lives could be in jeopardy?" If you have been following this story at all, you may have heard the urban legend that Mr. Murry was told to get into the mining business by a squirrel. I shit you not, and as sad as I am to announce, this is no legend but fact, as he has relayed this story on more than one occasion to many people. If you have listened to him talk he strikes me as a one of those people that live in their own reality, not totally aware of the outside world. while this not be a condemnatory crime, it is cause for examination into competency. Mr. Murry is his own worst enemy when it comes to public speaking, I have no doubts he does feel guilt and remorse for the events at the Crandall canyon mine, but to let him express them is to put a noose around his neck....Please, someone shut him up.
In closing this has been nothing more than my personal take on the events. I would also like to add, to anyone thinking of making a significant life change, do not do so on the advice of a squirrel.
God bless our Six and the three heros. RIP.
