no kasteele, an absolute truth is that which is true in spite of beliefs. it is something that is true on its own merits, not subjective opinion or concensus. it is true no matter what the circumstances. that is how it is an absolute, and also why they are so few and far between.

skywatcher-that is pretty close, except when people start questioning the definition of quantities. the terminology becomes subjective and people start that arguements on how absolute that is. but the fact they are still 4 (or whatever term is used) seperate things or two (or whatever term is used) seperate batches of seperate things.

two is an integer, and is universally recognized as such.
it doesn't matter the terminology. Two, Dos, Zwei, are all different terms for the integer two. So, two plus two will always equal four, regardless of the terminology.

Ok Mattd, give me an absolute that cannot be disagreed with by at least one person in the billions on earth. Just one fact that is undisputable.

kasteele-no such thing exists. concensus does not make somethign right, it just means enough people can be wrong. your belief is that a person can be an idiot and thus disprove something. or a large group of idiots can rewrite reality. no such thing exists, things happen as they really happen, wether or not enough idiots interpret it wrong.

skywatcher-if someoen gets into the stupid arguement of two and four switchign meanings the concept stays the same, but the statement and the truth no longer add up. while I'll agree with the basic concept sicne it is perfect logic, the philosophy will keep goign on the power of terms. so the truth is questionable sicne it is contingent on what each term means.

this is why I hate subjectivists, though. it's a nonsense arguement, but it is a slight technicality that makes the lick of sense.

If someone asks "Am I a figment of someone elses imaginiation?" then the response is "Who wants to know?"

JESUS

It's you that say I am.
I look for truth and find that I get damned.

PILATE

But what is truth?
Is truth a changing law?
We both have truths.
Are mine the same as yours?

bree-only reason I ignored that is because I am so sick of hearing decartes. I'll grant it as being an absolute truth

Bre, you miss my point. All truths are questionable. I am not saying questioning truths or truths not being truth to some is right, just that as we humans go, it makes no truth absolute. there wil always be a decentor.
