I made these over Christmas and with a double batch all went within a day!

INGREDIENTS
1 (16 ounce) package ground pork sausage
1 (17.25 ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
1 Small Onion
1 beaten egg

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Unfold the 2 puff pastry sheets, and cut along the 2 fold lines of each sheet and then cut the 1/3 sheets into 3 squares to form 9 equal squares for a total of 18 squares (if you do both pastry sheets).

Chop the onion (I used a "Chopper Mate") and mix in a bowl with the sausage meat.

Roll sausage into a small log and place log on square. Roll dough around the sausage, and seal with a bit of beaten egg. I roll them and have the seam at the bottom. I then cut these in two (make great finger food) or you can just leave them as is for larger rolls.

Place rolls onto an ungreased baking sheet, and brush the tops with the rest of the egg.

Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the rolls are puffed and golden.

I usually watch after 15 minutes or so to make sure they don't burn but I tend to cook mine for nearly 30 minutes as I like them really crispy and I like meat well done.

TIP: Find really cheap sausage meat with no spices... seems to get closer to "real" British Sausage Rolls the cheaper the meat is.

Tabasco eh?... I have heard of an English Mustard version too but the ones I make remind me of being a kid back in England filling my face with Sausage Rolls and then being too full to eat dinner.

Not really like pigs in blankets, cause in England pigs in blankets are sausages wrapped in bacon.. ~chuckles~

The cheaper the sausage roll the better it tastes.. ~nods~---------------------------------------

Oh yum!

Thanks Cradz ... they are also 'Aussie' sausage rolls and my taste buds have been craving them ever since i came to the U.S. Can get them from Australian product stores but woefully expensive.

*copies the recipe and saves it carefully to a file*

Way to go, Cradz! Thanks again! This message was edited by ~*vivienne*~ on 1-19-07 @ 9:18 AM
