| | | | When I was a child *trying to sound very old* we sat in the hallway of the school, with our head between our knees every month. Every month we practiced what to do if the Russians were to bomb the depot that was less than one mile from the school.
As child I spent the dinner hour watching the Nam war on TV. I was made to get up early in the morning to watch the landing on the moon. I watched as uncles and aunt came back from war with less abilty to smile. I listen to stories of how children died and guiltabout killing the people that wanted nothing more than to live and be left alone. They had nothing to do with the choices the government makes. Like me..I have no choice in what the American Government does.
I cried for the American soliders that riddled a van with bullets till not a fly could have lived. Why did I cry? because I can not imagine the nightmares they will have, forever, after they opened the van to find children die. Children whose crime was being born where they were born and when.
I am disgusted by the soliders that commit acts that some how are taken instride because after all..all is fair in love and war yes?
I grew up in a milatary family. I am the only one that choose not to serve in the service.
I do not support the continued sending of troops to thier death. I think when the total of Americans reach 100,000 the war will continue. When the total of Iraquis reach 100,000 the war will continue.
My granddaughter is 7. When she is 30 she will be questioning why the Iraqi war still rages. She will probably have read about 4 others wars. Most presidents send us to war some where for some reason.
One more when I was a kid...the papers were filled with news of the future..hover crafts instead of traditional cars. Medicine that can cure almost everything instead of creating a new pill that cures one thing and causes the need for 15 others pills.
And finally peace. People would reach the point of communication where guns would be a forgotten weapon.
At 49 I believe war is like taxes and death..always an constant. There is war because there are human beings.
There is war because it brings money.
There is war because there are egos.
There are honest reasons for war, I suppose. It just depends on which side of the war you are on and what truth the newspapers and government allow you to know.
There will always be war..as long as there are humans.
